The day came when only its firmness remained in the monastery - Elder Athanasius. . His grief was great, and he endured all the hardships, but one day he decided to leave the monastery. With sadness in his heart, he walked with a staff in his hands along the road leading to the city of Karey - the capital of the holy Mount Athos. After two hours, he got tired and decided to sit down on a stone lying near the road to rest. And suddenly an amazing vision appeared before him - a Woman wrapped in a light blue blanket was walking towards him.
The elder’s amazement knew no bounds, and he again chose from the Woman who She was, to which he received the answer: “I am the One to whose name you dedicated your monastery.” I am the Mother of Your Lord. And I know that from now on I will forever remain the Economist (House Builder) of your abodes. The elder hurried to return to the monastery, where he observed with surprise that the storerooms were full of various supplies. Having learned about the miracle, the monks hastened to return to the abandoned monastery, and soon the abandoned monastery came to life again. By the will of the Mother of God, Saint Athanasius established an order in his monastery that is worthy even today - there is no economist in the monastery, and one of the monks is rightly in the position of assistant Economist (sub-economist).
The image of the Mother of God “Economissa” or “House-Builder” was created in memory of the miraculous deliverance of the Lavra from the observation of the appearances of the Mother of God to Elder Athanasius. The icon painter ornaments the Mother of God, sitting on a throne and holding the Mother of God on her hand. To the left of the throne is Elder Athanasius. On his palms is a laurel depicted - a symbol of the care and protection of the Mother of God of the monastery. To the right of the Most Pure Virgin is St. Michael of Sinad. With reverent reading to the icon of God, the matter of man, “Economissa” belongs to the richest treasures of the 20th century - Aristotle Onassis. Prince Charles, an Anglican by religion, has also visited the Holy Mountain several times.
